Good from far, but far from good…
Pros -
Receiver has numerous features like karaoke, sd card reader, USB input etc not found at this price level. Got reeled in by the features not found in the typical receiver at this price level.
Cons -
This was the deal breaker for me. I connected it to the output from my TV. My previous receiver would then mute when I muted the TV, lower the volume when I lowered the volume on my TV etc. This receiver doesn’t care what you do to the TV volume, raise it, lower it, mute it, it keeps channeling sound to the external speakers.
Second, you have to set the volume on the receiver to really loud for it to pick up some sources. It’s pretty variable. So what is a reasonable level on the TV, becomes a window breaking blast of sound from the blu ray player. If you accidentally change the input, you will be startled out of your wits.
Thirdly, the USB and SD card input only read cards upto 8 GB. Good luck finding those cards. The typical minimum I see is about 16 GB. In another few months you will be hard pressed to find anything lesser than 32 GB. So this feature will be useless in the near future.
The karaoke function is a nice touch, but alas, the two microphone inputs can’t be controlled independently, which is a real pain, if you have a musical instrument coming in on one and vocal on the other. This means if you raise the echo for the vocal, you would be raising it for the musical input too, giving rise to jarring sounds.
My recommendation? Buy a typical cheapo receiver from best buy/any store and invest $ 34 in a nice sound mixer from Radioshack what will give you full power what happens when you do what.
